About Us

Thank you for visiting our website. We are glad that you found us. Now that you are here, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you.

Afarian Oriental Rugs, established in 1970 by Katcher K. Afarian, is a family owned business which includes his wife Mary Ann and his son Gregory.

We specialize in museum quality restoration of oriental rugs. We also have for sale a select quality of new oriental rugs and antique rugs for collectors.

Katcher is an expert restorer of oriental rugs specializing in the repair of antique oriental rugs. He was taught this special art in Beruit, Lebanon and came to this country in 1968 to work for Mr. Housni Mahfuz, owner of Araby Rug Company located at the time on Boylston Street in Boston. While working at Araby Rug Company, he restored antique oriental rugs for the Gardner Museum as well as many other unique pieces from around the world. He also worked at the Arthur T. Gregorian Oriental Rug Company in Newton Lower Falls. On June 15, 1970, he opened Afarian Oriental Rugs at 18 Waverly Road in North Andover, Massachusetts, where we are still located today.
