Afarian
Oriental Rugs, established in 1970 by Katcher K. Afarian, is
a family owned business which includes his wife Mary Ann and
his son Gregory.
We
specialize in museum quality restoration of oriental rugs.
We also have for sale a select
quality of new oriental rugs and antique rugs for collectors.
Katcher is an expert restorer of oriental rugs specializing
in the repair of antique oriental rugs. He was taught this special
art in Beruit, Lebanon and came to this country in 1968 to work
for Mr. Housni Mahfuz, owner of Araby Rug Company located at
the time on Boylston Street in Boston. While working at Araby
Rug Company, he restored antique oriental rugs for the Gardner
Museum as well as many other unique pieces from around the world.
He also worked at the Arthur T. Gregorian Oriental Rug Company
in Newton Lower Falls. On June 15, 1970, he opened Afarian Oriental
Rugs at 18 Waverly Road in North Andover, Massachusetts, where
we are still located today.
